Envy

Joshua has dozens and dozens of trains. He plays with Thomas the Tank Engine trains everyday, all day. We read Thomas or other train books before he goes to sleep every night on his train pillow beneath train blankets with his tracks next to his bed. He wears train pj's and underwear, has a Thomas alarm clock next to his bed, as well as an engineer's hat, a Thomas pocketwatch which he carries around daily, a thomas piggy bank, and a set of train russian stacking dolls. When Josh wakes up in the morning he brings his trains to the table to eat breakfast on his Thomas placemat with his Thomas cup. On the way to preschool we listen to Thomas stories in the car, and when he gets to preschool he plays with trains ALL DAY. Then he comes home and has a nap with his trains in his bed, and when he wakes up he takes his trains out to the sandbox until dinnertime. He even has train bath toys and coloring books, and will only watch train movies. We think it's great, but there is one problem....

Joshua doesn't like to share his trains. Ever.

Now, Joshua's baby sister Claire really looks up to him. She wants to do what he does, and so she too has begun to take an interest in his trains. However, Joshua isn't quite as enthusiastic about her interest. Whenever Claire crawls over to pick up a train that Josh has set up, he will pick her up and carry her as far from his trains as possible.

Today we decided to give Claire a train of her own. Her train is Rosie:

Right away, Claire LOVED her train! She got a big smile on her face and she knew it was hers. She started playing with it on the floor and crawling around with it. Joshua however, wasn't so happy about Claire's gift. Jealousy reared it's ugly head.

Maybe it's time Joshua learns to share.

What a darling video!!
Nick was obsessed with dinosaurs when he was little. I think he still has them.

AND he had a stingy problem as well.

When he was about six, I asked him if I could have some of his skittles. He got this scared look on his face, opened his hand, handed me ONE skittle, ran to his room, closed the door and hid the rest.

I refer to this as the "Skittle Incident."

Oh my goodness that is so funny. Claire is so excited! I love her :) Sounded like she yelled, "Choo Choo TRAIN!" After she was cheesing at the camera(which is also very funny). Is she taking steps by herself? I love the cute train. That's cute that she carries it around everywhere.

And poor Joshy... the one thing he can't have.... Rosie. Maybe this will be a breaking defining moment. He'll start to share his trains with Claire if she will share her's with him? :)

That was really cute and they are both growing up! Claire looks a lot more sturdy standing there and I think she has the prettiest train, pink!

I love the video! That whole 'sharing' concept is such a painful one at that age.

Well lucky for Josh Isak has no interest in trains so hopefully that will lessen the contention at christmas time.....

That is so funny. The same thing happened to our family. When The twins started showing interest in Thomas's trains, we had to go buy them their own special trians. BUT Thomas liked their trains too. Now they all shared, but It was a battle.

Luke was exactly like that with his Thomas trains, from pillowcases, cups all the way down to his underpants. I can still remember the first time Jared crawled over to his train table and pulled himself up. Jared was so proud and Luke about died! Luke has learned to share his trains and most of the time it is Jared who will not share. Good luck with the upcoming months!

I love it. So true of all kids. Thanks for sharing - it makes me feel like my kids are just the same as others. We have sharing issues with Clytie and Clara all the time. It is rough being 5 & 3 huh :)
